Our volunteers are the backbone of Iron County Care & Share. They help with meals, shelter, outreach, and more.
This guide will help you get started and succeed.
Getting Started
To get started, please complete the following:

Once you’ve submitted your paperwork, our team will reach out to schedule orientation and assign your first shift.
Volunteer Requirements
Pantry Privileges for Volunteers
Volunteers who qualify for pantry or food box services must follow these guidelines:

Items are only available during hours of operation

You may access eligible pantry items at the end of your shift, with checkout by the shift coordinator

Only designated distribution items may be taken
-
No “saving” items off shelves or out of the fridge
-
Items are not available until officially received, stocked, and placed in approved distribution locations
Shift Procedures
Starting Your Shift

Arrive on time and dress appropriately
-
Sign in to the volunteer hours tracking system
-
Wear your volunteer vest visibly at all times
-
Wash your hands before beginning work
-
If you’re feeling ill, do not report for your shift — please notify the Pantry/Warehouse Manager as soon as possible

Check in with the Pantry/Warehouse Manager for your day’s duties
During Your Shift

Take breaks as needed — just let the shift leader or manager know when you step away

When you're done for the day, let the Pantry/Warehouse Manager or shift coordinator know and sign out
Court- or Agency-Mandated Hours

Notify the Pantry/Warehouse Manager

Request written confirmation of your hours

Keep a copy for your own records — ICCS does not maintain hour logs on your behalf
Rules and Safety
Food and Drink

No eating in the pantry or warehouse

All food is designated for client use only
Conduct & Dress Code
To maintain a safe and respectful space:

No profanity or inappropriate conversations
-
No open-toed shoes
-
Please dress in modest, appropriate attire
-
Cell phones are not permitted in the pantry and should be silenced
-
No personal music devices allowed
Safety Protocols
-
Do not climb on shelves or equipment
-
Never stand on pallet jacks or carts
-
Volunteers may not operate forklifts or equipment without approval and certification
